VALATIE — The Ichabod Crane Girls JV and varsity volleyball teams swept Albany Academy for Girls in the first-ever match in the Riders’ newly renovated gym
In the opening match the Riders JV team won in two, 25-6 and 25-8.
Eighth graders Ali Cox and Kayte Flint each had 8 aces to pace a strong serving attack. As a team the Riders recorded 24 Aces on the night. Emma Phillips led the hitting attack with 4 Kills.
“We had a great start to a promising season,” coach and former ICC standout Dell Potts said.
The varsity team won in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-6 and 25-14.
The Riders were paced by senior setter Delaney More, who tallied 5 Aces, 6 Kills and 11 Assists. Sophomore Ally Flint had 6 Aces, 7 Kills and 4 Digs. Senior Emma Scheitinger Led the team with 8 Aces to go along with 4 Kills and 5 Digs. Sophomores Rylee Dunn had 7 Kills and Angie O’Leary had 10 Assists.
“What a great feeling to get the first ever wins in the new gym,” coach Adam Vooris commented. “We want to compete every match, especially on our home court.”
GIRLS SOCCER
Ichabod Crane 2,
Catholic Central 1
TROY — Kiley Melanson scored a goal in each half as Ichabod Crane defeated Catholic Central, 2-1, in Thursday’s Colonial Councl girls soccer game.
Ashley Ames and Ariana Davis each picked up an assist for the Riders.
Ames stopped six shots in goal.
GOLF
Greenville rolls
Greenville hosted Coxsackie at Island Green Resort and was able to improve their record to 3-0 on the young season.
Ryan Arp from Greenville shot a two-under 33 which led the Spartans. Matt Burch led the River Hawks with a 45.
Greenville put up solid scores up and down the line up which allowed the Spartans to win with a wide margin.
Greenville is off until Wednesday when it travels to Pheasant Hollow to take on Maple Hill.
Chatham 9.5,
Cairo-Durham 2.5
Chatham defeated Cairo-Durham at Winding Brook on Thursday, 9.5 – 2.5.
Two Chatham players shot sectionals scores: Anthony O’Dell 41 and Zach Casivant 42.
Kevin Feeney from Cairo-Durham shot a sectional score of 42.
Taconic Hills 12,
Catskill 0
Zach Rowe shot a 43 to lead Taconic Hills past Catskill, 12-0, in Thursday’s Patroon Conference golf match.

FIELD HOCKEY

Ichabod Crane 0
The ICC varsity field hockey team came up short on its opening day contest vs Granville with a 6-0 loss on Thursday.
Haylie Barber had a goal and a assist for Granville, playing in her first field hockey game ever.
Senior Catherine Farley had 14 saves in goal for the Riders.
Up next for the Riders is an away game vs. Scotia on September 9.
